A Community That Welcomes

What does it really mean to welcome someone? Not just to make them comfortable, but to make them feel they belong? In the fourth and final message of "Called Together," Rev. Laura Fanizza closes the series with the story of Paul's shipwreck on the island of Malta, where strangers showed up cold, hungry, and broke, with no notice and no guarantee of return, and the people of Malta poured into them anyway. What followed was not a transaction. It was the kind of faithful hospitality where giving and receiving flow back and forth like breathing, and where God makes things happen that no one planned.

Drawing on her experience in health care and a mission trip to Alabama after a series of devastating tornadoes, Rev. Fanizza explores what it looks like to practice this kind of hospitality as a community, especially in a season of change. As River Road prepares to welcome a new pastor, this sermon is both a challenge and an encouragement: when we stay open to what God is doing, we leave room to be surprised.
