Rejoice in the Lord

How can Paul tell a church in the middle of a conflict, and write it himself from a prison cell, to rejoice? In this message on Philippians 4, Rev. Laura Fanizza explores what it means that rejoicing was never about having a good reason to feel happy.

Drawing on her work as a counselor, where she teaches patients that more than one feeling can live in the body at the same time, and the story of a rescue dog who slowly learned that a new home was safe, Rev. Fanizza unpacks Paul’s insight that grace, not circumstance, is what makes joy possible. The call to rejoice sits right alongside real conflict, real anxiety, and real grief, not because nothing is wrong, but because God, as her childhood Sunday school teacher once put it, is not way out there. God is right here.
