Wade in the Waters

What does it mean to say "I love you, Lord" when the poor are being overlooked and justice is nowhere to be found? In the first message of the new series "Overcoming Obstacles to Peace," Pastor Sarah opens in the book of Amos, where the prophet delivers an uncomfortable word to people who have confused celebration with worship and comfort with faithfulness.

Drawing on a vivid memory of looking out from a Beijing hotel window and discovering a trash dump full of children living at its edges, Pastor Sarah challenges us to look past the pretty picture and see who is missing from our table. Amos is not a relic of the ancient world. His words land with weight today, calling us to ask whether our worship is backed by lives that work for justice, welcome the stranger, and speak up when something is wrong.

Based on Amos 5, this sermon is an honest and pastoral call to let justice roll down like water and to finally mean it when we say we love God.
